The Spectator is one of Britain\'s oldest and most influential magazines. For some time we\'ve had an Australian edition (with more than 10,000 paying subscribers), and now we\'ve set our sights on the US. Our American edition - The Spectator World - is already read by more than 15,000 paying subscribers and growing.

Our digital marketing strategy will play a crucial part in growing the subscriber base and revenues of our regional titles. Our websites already draw a captive and growing audience, and we want to capitalise on this by generating more leads and driving more subscription conversions online.

The digital marketing team is essential in driving new acquisitions and increasing customer retention (which in turn also leads to growth). The key objectives are to generate additional subscriptions, build both subscriber and non-subscriber engagement, and improve retention.

An exciting position has become available for a digital marketing executive to join our marketing team working predominantly on The Spectator World and The Spectator Australia. Reporting to the Head of Subscriptions, the role will focus on achieving KPI\'s across a range of channels including social media, email marketing and website optimisation.

Role Responsibilities

  • Working with key stakeholders to execute an integrated marketing strategy to drive both print and digital subscription acquisitions
  • Maintaining a weekly digital marketing schedule of acquisition email campaigns, referral marketing campaigns and social media acquisition activity. Keeping track of activity through a campaign schedule
  • To monitor the success of acquisition marketing activities through appropriate measurement and evaluation and review with Head of Subscriptions, making recommendations for improvement
  • Regularly review and optimise automated email programs - such as win back series - to maximise customer engagement and retention
  • Assist with the maintenance and evolution of a CRM database
  • Maintain each title\'s online funnel report, as well as other key reporting documents which feed into the Head of Subscriptions and other senior management
  • Input into the PPC/Paid social campaigns
  • A/B testing website banner creative and user journeys
  • Assist with data quality control
  • Feedback to the Head of Subscriptions and Marketing Team on digital trends, areas of opportunity and any emerging concerns that require attention

Requirements

Enthusiasm and a passion for digital marketing is of paramount importance, and a keen interest in politics and current affairs is a must. Experience across a range of digital channels would also put you in good stead.

  • Strong analytical skills, with a proficiency within Excel
  • Fast learner with the ability to think on your feet
  • A digital native with some experience across a range of digital marketing channels (web based, social, email etc.)
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Experience working with an ESP (e.g. Mailchimp / Campaign Monitor) and with reporting tools
  • Great team-working skills as well as self-motivation
  • Strong communication and influencing skills
  • Educated to a degree level or equivalent
  • A natural flare with writing and communicating (a strong command of the English language is essential)
  • Knowledgeable on all things digital - keeping up-to-date with trends and best practice
  • A keen interest in politics and current affairs

Desirable

  • Previous experience in a subscriptions marketing environment
  • Good working knowledge of web analytic tools such as Google Analytics
  • Experience utilising social media scheduling and listening tools
  • Understanding of A/B testing methodology
  • Basic Photoshop / InDesign skills
  • Some knowledge of the US market
