Role purpose

The purpose of the role is to support the Director, Mass Markets by implementing the Retention strategy to generate long-term sustainable growth, cultivate a loyal and engaged donor base and maximise net revenue. You will be responsible for annual operational planning and delivery across the retention programme (including emergency appeals). You will manage significant annual budgets, ensuring return on investment, and oversee all campaign activity with support from the Retention Marketing Executive.

You will be part of a department focused on excellence with opportunities to lead on change and growth.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Director, Mass Markets in the development and delivery of the retention strategy and priorities
  • Identify, scope and deliver new opportunities that advance the retention strategy
  • Manage retention operational planning, including annual, quarterly and monthly planning sessions and reporting frameworks
  • Coordinate internal and external partner requirements to maximise activity and smooth back-office operations
  • Develop and distribute a detailed marketing plan (refreshed quarterly) aligned with priorities and coordinated with other Mass Market UK teams

Budget management

  • Manage segments of the annual budgeting and quarterly reforecasting process, identifying savings or reallocation opportunities
  • Maximise return on investment and monitor retention income and expenditure with variance reporting for the Director, Mass Markets

Campaign management

  • Oversee multi-channel revenue and engagement campaigns, including emergencies, ensuring activity inspires and engages supporters
  • Design and implement customer journeys across segments to increase loyalty and value
  • Develop and manage mid-level portfolio, including donor events and cultivation of prospects into active donors
  • Ensure tasks are completed on time and within budget, providing overflow support during peak times
  • Coordinate with teams in other markets to maximise activity

Insight, analysis and data management

  • Collaborate with Analytics to identify requirements and draw actionable insights from performance data
  • Approve end-of-campaign reports and inform future activity
  • Monitor day-to-day metrics and act on performance issues and opportunities

Leadership and management

  • Line manage the Retention Marketing Executive(s) and support development and progression
  • Collaborate with Mass Markets teams to create a seamless donor journey
  • Manage relationships with external suppliers and prepare quarterly business reviews as required

General

  • Keep up to date with sector developments in individual giving
  • Adhere to relevant legislation and standards (Fundraising Regulator, ICO) and ensure ethical, donor-centric fundraising
  • Travel or overnight stays may be required, including during emergencies
  • Undertake other tasks as requested by the Director, Mass Markets

Person specification

Experience

  • Experience and understanding of Individual Giving and retention programmes with proven revenue and engagement delivery across multiple channels
  • Line management experience
  • Experience with creative processes and brand identity across channels
  • Operational planning and campaign management experience
  • Experience in fast-paced, high-performing teams
  • Experience in a centralized, international organization is advantageous

Skills, knowledge and qualifications

  • Understanding of cash and recurring revenue models
  • Experience with audience and donor segmentation and analytical modelling (e.g., LTV) to drive performance
  • Solutions-focused, proactive and commercially minded
  • Excellent English (verbal and written) and ability to produce high-quality reports
  • Strong IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and data analysis skills; knowledge of PowerBI is a plus
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage a complex workload
  • Strong interpersonal skills to influence and negotiate with stakeholders at all levels

Language: English fluent. Other languages not required. This role requires meeting Disability Confident criteria where applicable.
