Retention Marketing Manager – International Rescue Committee (IRC) UK
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to humanitarian crises and works to restore health, safety, education, economic wellbeing, and power to people affected by conflict and disaster. IRC UK is part of the IRC global network, with teams across the UK and internationally. The purpose of the role is to support the Director, Mass Markets by implementing the Retention strategy to generate long-term sustainable growth, cultivate a loyal and engaged donor base and maximise net revenue.
Responsibilities
- Support the Director, Mass Markets in the development and delivery of the retention strategy and priorities
- Identify, scope and deliver new and innovative opportunities that advance the retention strategy
- Manage retention operational planning, including annual, quarterly and monthly planning sessions; define key deliverables and ensure activity supports the aims of the retention strategy
- Manage the monitoring and reporting framework to track performance against strategic objectives
- Identify and brief support requirements with internal and external partners to maximise activity and ensure smooth back-office operations
- Build, manage and distribute a detailed marketing plan (refreshed quarterly) aligned with strategic priorities and objectives; coordinate with other Mass Market UK teams
- Budget management
- Manage segments of the annual budgeting and quarterly reforecasting process; identify opportunities for savings, additional investment, or budget reallocation
- Focus on maximising ROI; provide contingency action as necessary to achieve budgeted income targets
- Lead on tracking and reconciling retention income and expenditure budget lines; provide variance reporting for regular financial reporting
- Campaign management
- Oversee, plan and deliver multi-channel revenue and engagement campaigns, including emergencies, to inspire supporters
- Oversee the design and implementation of customer journeys across segments and products to increase loyalty, value and holdings
- Lead development and management of the mid-level portfolio, including regular communications, donor events, and cultivation of prospects into active donors
- Ensure work is completed to standard, on time and within budget; provide overflow support during peak times
- Coordinate with counterparts in other markets to maximise activity
- Insight, analysis and data management
- Collaborate with Analytics to identify requirements and draw actionable insights from performance data
- Sign off end-of-campaign reports; use findings to inform future activity
- Monitor day-to-day metrics and address performance issues and opportunities
- Leadership and management
- Line manage and develop the Retention Marketing Executive(s); support training, development and progression
- Work with the team to increase cross-team connection and create a seamless donor progression
- Manage relationships with external suppliers and prepare quarterly business reviews as required
- General
- Stay up to date with sector developments in individual giving; adhere to relevant regulation including the Fundraising Regulator and ICO
- Ensure fundraising and marketing is ethical, effective and donor-centric
- This post may involve travel and occasional out-of-hours work, including during emergencies
- Undertake other tasks as requested by the Director, Mass Markets
Person specification
- Experience and understanding of Individual Giving and retention programs with a proven track record across multiple channels
- Experience of line management
- Experience and understanding of the creative process and brand identity across channels
- Experience of operational planning and campaign management
- Experience working in a fast-paced, high-performing team
- Experience in a centralised, international organisation is advantageous
- Skills, knowledge and qualifications
- Understanding of cash and recurring revenue models
- Experience with audience and donor segmentation and analytical modelling (e.g., LTV) to drive performance
- Driven, proactive and solutions-based
- Excellent verbal and written English; ability to produce high-quality reports
- Commercially minded with ability to balance long-term and short-term objectives
- Strong IT skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Numerate with data analysis skills; familiarity with analytical tools such as PowerBI
- Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage a complex workload
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and negotiate with stakeholders at all levels
Language: English (fluent). No other languages required.

Salary: £45,000 - £53,082 per year
