About the post
We’re looking for a new Communications and Marketing Officer to support the Environment and Transport service as part of our Growth and Sustainability directorate. Your aim is to develop great communications and marketing activity that makes a difference in people’s lives and helps us achieve our priorities and ambitions.

You’ll use multiple channels and create engaging, high-quality content. As a talented communicator, you’ll apply your skills in public relations and media work, copywriting, social media content creation and management, and delivering integrated communications and marketing campaigns. Your insight-led plans and campaigns with SMART objectives will deliver results for Barnsley.

You’ll be confident in creating and delivering digital marketing strategies and maximising platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and TikTok. Your work will be clear, engaging and stand out in a crowded content market.

You’ll be a natural storyteller, working with communities across the borough to tell their stories using the right tone and language for diverse audiences. You’ll liaise with local and national media, spotting opportunities and selling stories to promote the council and the place.

Managing priorities and multiple projects will be key, and you’ll need a political understanding of how your work affects stakeholders. All roles in Communications and Marketing are politically restricted.

You’ll have a Level 6 qualification in communications, marketing or a related subject, or a Level 3 qualification with extensive equivalent experience in communications or marketing roles.

We’re a creative team in a fast-paced environment. With your experience, you’ll be an important part of it. We can’t wait to work with you.
