We live on Planet Ocean, and our goal is to create the ocean intelligence needed to ensure a sustainable future.The RoleSofar Ocean is seeking a Maritime Industry Specialist to serve as our point person for marketing Wayfinder across EMEA and APAC. While it will be a hands-on marketing role, you don’t need a traditional marketing background. Instead, this role is ideal for someone with deep experience in the shipping/maritime industry (whether from marketing, sales, or business development) who knows the players, associations, and events that matter.The right candidate will bring credibility, connections, and strong knowledge of the industry landscape. They’ll also be hands-on in executing campaigns, events, and content that resonate with shipping operators, voyage managers, and maritime leaders.You will be our point person for all marketing activities in these regions—driving event and partnership strategies, producing content, and amplifying Sofar’s brand among shipping operators, voyage managers, and maritime leaders. At the moment, this is a fully remote role, but candidates should be comfortable with regional travel for events.Location: London preferred | Remote-friendly | Open to candidates in other regionsManager: Head of Marketing & Communications (CA)Duration: 12-month contractImpact You’ll Own:Own the marketing execution for Wayfinder in EMEA and APAC, aligned with global goals.Identify and prioritize industry events, trade shows, and conferences; handle end-to-end planning, logistics, and on-site execution.Evaluate which events are worth attending and define Sofar’s role (speaking, sponsorships, presence).Content & CampaignsPlan, produce, and host webinars tailored to the maritime community.Write and edit blog posts, case studies, and thought leadership pieces for the website and regional channels.Localize campaigns and messaging to resonate with regional markets.Cross-functional CollaborationPartner with the global marketing team to adapt and deploy campaigns.Work with sales to develop regional collateral and event support.Share insights on competitive activity, customer needs, and market dynamics.Update Website as needed.About You5-7 years of marketing experience. Maritime/shipping industry a must.Strong knowledge of maritime associations, trade events, and industry networks.Excellent communication and organizational skills.Familiarity with digital marketing tools or willingness to learn (HubSpot, Webflow).Hands-on, resourceful, and comfortable juggling multiple priorities in a lean environment.Willingness to travel (20–30%).Bonus PointsAdditional language skills relevant to global shipping markets, particularly Japanese, Korean, Greek, Arabic, Spanish, or German.Sofar's Commitment to Climate JusticeWe at Sofar Ocean acknowledge that careers in the marine sciences “... have traditionally been, and remain, non-diverse work environments”, thereby limiting the entry and prosperity of underrepresented groups in the space.
