Head of Marketing & Communications Location: London Department: Strategy Reports to: Chief Strategy Officer Africa Specialty Risks Ltd (ASR) is a specialty insurer and reinsurer focusing primarily on risks located in Africa, across all lines of business. ASR is also a Lloyd’s Syndicate and Lloyd’s approved coverholder (in the UK). The business operates as a Managing General Agent sourcing world leading capacity for African insurance and reinsurance risk. With offices in London, Mauritius, Casablanca, Dubai and South Africa, ASR combines a unique knowledge of Africa coupled with the skills and experience required to excel at what we do. Role Purpose The Head of Marketing & Communications is responsible for the formulation, management, and delivery of a marketing, communications, and engagement strategy that supports ASR’s business objectives and enhances its reputation in the specialty (re)insurance market. This role leads ASR’s media relations and positioning efforts, manages reputational risks, and acts as a senior spokesperson when required. This role oversees brand identity and positioning; internal and external communications; stakeholder engagement and partnerships with industry bodies, while ensuring that all activities align with ASR’s mission and commercial goals. Duties & Responsibilities Marketing Strategy
Develop and lead ASR’s marketing and communications strategy, ensuring alignment with broader organisational goals Define the long-term brand vision and oversee consistent delivery across all channels Manage and lead a high‑performing marketing & communications team
Media & Press
Oversee media relations strategy, including reactive and proactive press engagement Hold deep relationships with leading industry journalists to influence superior media coverage for ASR Manage potential negative issues in the press including crises communications, M&A, reputational issues Be a trusted communications adviser to members of the Executive Committee and provide advice on media and external affairs
Brand & Positioning
Maintain and evolve the organisation’s brand identity, tone of voice, and messaging frameworks Ensure brand consistency across all marketing materials, digital platforms, and stakeholder communications
Events & Conferences
Lead a programme of events according to the business’ needs Provide oversight to a campaign of events and conferences throughout the year
Content & Campaigns
Provide strategic direction and leadership of content and campaign planning across web, social media, email, and internal channels Ensure digital presence and storytelling reflect and amplify the organisation’s mission and values
Partnerships & Stakeholder Engagement
Build and nurture external partnerships and networks that support brand visibility and thought leadership Represent the organisation in strategic networks, coalitions, and industry forums Keep track of partner membership networks, and decide upon appropriate events/sponsorships to engage in that further ASR’s business
Internal Communications
Set the tone and direction for internal communications, ensuring staff are informed, aligned, and engaged Support internal leadership in communicating major updates, strategy, and values
Any other reasonable tasks as directed by your manager(s). Skills & Experience Essential
Extensive experience of marketing and communications leadership in the (re)insurance sector Deep connections with journalists across the insurance industry trade press Experience in managing high functioning marketing & communications team Ability to act as a trusted adviser to the Executive Committee across corporate communications issues
