Yorkshire Food Guide is an online directory of the best restaurants, events, exclusive offers and food and drink news from across the region - yorkshirefoodguide.co.uk.


YFG has the largest targeted audience of food and drink lovers in the region, 400K+ across the website, social media, app and e-newsletter database. Working with prestigious clients across Yorkshire to showcase top dining destinations and events.


The role

We're looking for a skilled writer who lives in Yorkshire and has experience of writing SEO optimised content for websites. They like to be in the know of what's happening in the food, drink and events scene in Yorkshire. They have the ability to write in an engaging way to hook readers' interest, inform and write as if you're talking to a friend. You'll be able to write long-form content (e.g. guides/news/feature) and short-form content (e.g. for our e-newsletter and app push notifications, restaurant, event and product pages).


The person

  • Ability to research relevant news pieces, adapt them for YFG and get the articles ready to be shared ASAP by our social team.
  • Likes to be in the know of what's happening in the food, drink and events scene in Yorkshire.
  • Able to adapt your writing to suit the topic.
  • Casual but expert tone of voice when writing.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Able to identify the hook, USPs and call to action required.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Think outside the box when it comes to content ideas.

Day to day tasks

  • Keeping up to date with trending topics, news stories, new openings and upcoming events.
  • Researching and writing search engine optimised digital guides/news, features etc.
  • Keyword research to inform content plan.
  • Monitor and maintain YFG’s search rankings.
  • Coming up with content ideas that will fit across the website/socials/email.
  • Writing content for client campaigns e.g. features/reviews.
  • Creating and sending email newsletters, workflows and competition sign-ups.
  • Creating and sending YFG app push notifications.
  • Adding content to the website and ensuring it's up to date – restaurant profile pages, event listings, product listings etc.
  • Creating, implementing and monitoring external link tracking.
  • Opportunities to attend shoots from time to time to feature in social videos.


Experience required

  • A minimum of 1+ years’ experience in a copywriting or content writing role.
  • Use of WordPress websites
  • Keyword research knowledge
  • SEO knowledge
  • Use of Google Search Console
  • Use of Google Analytics
  • Use of email marketing e.g. Mailchimp or similar
  • Must have a valid driving licence and be willing to drive across the region to shoots


Location

  • Leeds city centre office
  • 4 days in office, one day working from home - following a successful probation period
