The role leads the Debit Cards & Spend Management squad at OakNorth and focuses on building best-in-class debit card experiences for SMEs and empowering customers with smart, seamless spend solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Own and drive the product roadmap for debit card and spend management solutions, aligned to customer and business goals.
  • Shape the strategic agenda for the card programme, including capabilities, operational scalability, and innovation opportunities.
  • Act as the subject matter expert on debit card products and spend management across internal and external teams.
  • Collaborate with third parties (card processors, card networks, and service providers) to deliver a resilient, compliant and scalable product.
  • Support internal stakeholders (Operations, Compliance, Finance, Customer Support) in resolving card-related queries and operational issues.
  • Define and monitor OKRs to drive measurable outcomes and continuous product improvement.
  • Conduct user research and discovery, engaging SMEs to understand needs around card spend, control, and reconciliation.
  • Lead cross-functional teams (Product, Engineering, Design, Business) to ship impactful features at scale.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience managing digital card products (ideally debit or prepaid) within fintech, banking or card programme management.
  • Strong understanding of the end-to-end card ecosystem—issuing, transaction flow, authorisation/decline logic, network rules, disputes, fraud, and reconciliation.
  • Experience working with multiple third-party providers (processors, KYC/AML vendors, accounting integrations, card manufacturers, fraud tools).
  • Ability to support cross-functional teams with product-level and operational knowledge of card programmes.
  • Passion for building financial products that are user-friendly, reliable, and solve real business needs.
  • Strong product lifecycle management skills—from discovery and MVP to scaling and optimisation.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement, including presenting to leadership and collaborating with compliance or risk functions.

Bonus

  • Experience with employee card, spend management or subscription control tools for business banking.
  • Experience with card tokenisation, card controls, FX, or expense categorisation features.
  • Familiarity with accounting integrations (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks) and spend data integration with back-office systems.
