The Marketing Manager will lead DisabilityAction’s campaigning, advocacy, marketing, and events activity — helping to influence government,raiseawarenessofdisabledpeople’srights,andgrow our profile as a leading voice for change.As the organisation’s communications lead, the postholder will be a key public-facing representative and play a central role in strengthening our voice, visibility, and brand recognition across all channels.

Alongside this, the postholder will lead Disability Action’s campaigning, advocacy, marketing, and events activity to influence government, raise awareness of disabled people’s rights, and strengthen our profile as a leading voice for change. The role also includes oversight of our information and advice services, ensuring disabled people and their families can access accurate, accessible support. Insights from these services will be used to inform campaigns and policy influencing, ensuring grassroots experience shapes our priorities.

The responsibilities of the Marketing Manager will include:

Campaigns&Advocacy

  • LeadDisabilityAction’scampaigningandinfluencingagenda, ensuring alignment with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD).
  • Design and deliver impactful campaigns addressing key issuessuchaspoverty,transport,housing,andaccessto services.
  • Influencepolicyanddecision-makingacrosstheNIExecutive, Assembly Committees, local councils, and UK Government.
  • Mobilisedisabledpeopleandmemberorganisationsto participate in campaigns and advocacy work.
  • Buildstrategicallianceswithpartnersandstakeholdersto strengthen collective advocacy efforts.
  • Monitorandevaluatecampaignperformance,usingevidence- based insights to inform future activity.

Marketing & Communications

  • Developandwriteacomprehensivecommunicationsand marketing strategy to raise the visibility and influence of Disability Action.
  • Leadtheimplementationofthestrategyacrossallplatforms, ensuring alignment with organisational goals and values.
  • Manage all digital channels (website, social media, newsletters) to maximise audience reach and engagement.
  • ProtectandpromoteDisabilityAction’sbrand,ensuringall communicationsareinclusive,accessible,andconsistent.
  • Createcompellingmarketingandcommunicationscontent, including case studies, reports, and press releases, that highlights lived experience.
  • Serveastheprimarypresscontactandensurethatthevoices of disabled people are central to media coverage.

Events

  • Lead the planning and delivery of a diverse programme of events including conferences, policy forums, launches, stakeholderbriefings,andcommunityengagementactivities.
  • Ensure all events are accessible, inclusive, and reflect Disability Action’s ethos and values.
  • Manageeventbudgets,logistics,andsupplierrelationships efficiently and effectively.
  • Evaluateeventoutcomestomeasureengagementandimpact and apply learning to future planning.

Information & Advice Services

  • Oversee DisabilityAction’s information and advice services, ensuringtheyarehigh-quality,accessible,andrights-based.
  • Supportthedevelopmentofadviceresources,guides, and onlinecontenttailoredtotheneedsofdisabledpeopleand their families.
  • Use insights and trends from advice services to inform campaigns,policysubmissions,andadvocacypriorities.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to staff delivering advice services, promoting best practice and consistency

Stakeholder Engagement & Representation

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with policymakers, journalists, funders, and sector allies across Northern Ireland and beyond.
  • RepresentDisabilityActiononexternalworkinggroups, forums, and coalitions.
  • Embedco-productionandlivedexperienceinallareasof marketing, campaigns, and events.

Leadership & Management

  • Leadandsupportamultidisciplinaryteamacrosscampaigns, marketing, events, and advice services.
  • Manageperformance,staffdevelopment,andteamwellbeing to ensure a high-performing and inclusive culture.
  • Setclearobjectives,monitorprogress,andprovideregular feedback and guidance.
  • Overseebudgetsandresourceseffectively,aligningactivity with organisational priorities.
  • Contribute to strategic planning and report regularly to senior leadership and the Board on impact and outcomes.

Qualifications

  • A degree or professional qualification in marketing, communications,publicrelations,politics,socialpolicy,ora related field; or at least 2 years’ equivalent experience demonstrating ability to meet the requirements of the role.

Essential

  • At least 2 years’ proven experience in designing and deliveringsuccessfulcampaignsthatledtomeasurable change.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in marketing and communications,includingdigitalstrategy,mediarelations, and brand management.
  • Demonstrableexperienceplanninganddeliveringevents such as conferences, campaign launches, or community engagement activities.
  • Experience of managing or contributing to high-quality information and advice services, with a focus on accessibility and accuracy.
  • Provenabilitytowriteclear,engagingcontentforarangeof audiences and platforms, including reports, press releases, and digital channels.
  • Atleast2years’experienceofmanagingstafforcontractors, with evidence of leadership and team development.
  • Experiencemanagingbudgetsandresourceseffectively.
  • Strongorganisationalskillswiththeabilitytomanage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines
  • Adherencetodataprotectionregulations,suchasGDPR, and strict confidentiality protocols
  • Professionalisminhandlingsensitiveandconfidential information
  • Collaborativeteamplayerwiththeabilitytobuildpositive working relationships

Desirable Criteria

  • Knowledgeofdisabilityrights,UNCRPD,andthepolicycontext in Northern Ireland.
  • Experienceofco-producingcampaignsoreventswithdisabled people.
  • EstablishednetworkswithstakeholdersinNorthernIreland, including government, media, and civil society.
  • Experience of line management of a team of two or more staff.
